The Sunken Gardens St. Petersburg, Florida

This is one of those places you drive by on the way to somewhere else and see the sign but since it is in a very developed near downtown St. Petersbug you just do not think there would be anything there worthwhile to stop and check out.

This one is a Hallucinogen, I wonder who was the first person to see this and  think to roll it up and smoke it?

There is a very old turtle in that water

one of the very few places to see Flamingos in Florida.

We drove by it lots of times before we finally read something that convinced us to give it a try. The first time we went was on a ½ price Groupon and we got a nice tour by a volunteer but since it was not in the season when everything was blooming. We decided to go back and take a second look since everything should be in full bloom and it might be even better. It has been awhile since we were there and so I do not remember all the varities of plants and their names so I will just have to let the pics speak for themselves…..but if you are ever in St. Pete it is worth the trip there. The short story is a plumber by trade started the garden to sell vegetables as a way to earn a second income, but most people just wanted to come spend time in his wonderful garden, so he started charging 25 cents to hang out in the garden. As his garden grew he became one of the largest tourist attractions in the St. Pete area. Years later the family sold it all to the City to maintain and restore to all it’s former glory.

Gardens are just a great place to be and this one is special.
