Albert Einstein

Just a few blocks from Princeton University we saw some Historical Monuments and just parked the car and took a walk

Einstein is notable throughout Princeton area.

The Albert Einstein House at 112 Mercer Street in Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States,^[4] was the home of Albert Einstein from 1935 until his death in 1955.^[5] His second wife, Elsa Einstein, died in 1936 while living in this house. It is a private home now so you can only view from the sidewalk.

Einstein certainly must have spent some time at Princeton but he spent his working days here.

When we drove up and parked and walked around the front of the building, Visitors are not welcome inside, we saw a few scientist types arrive, 1 by bike, 1 by taxi, 1 walked up and then another was dropped of by a mate, they all walked to the right of the main building to a door and we just assumed they were fixing to have important meeting even though each one was dressed very casually.

We were not allowed in. I did check out their website and they did have several job postings, I might have been able to qualify for bartender (after going to a three week bar tending school here in Austin). Other Princeton, NJ Historical Things

When I saw this old church I had to speculate that the Christian
Scientist had early beginnings

Over 100 years ago, a group of residents in Princeton and the surrounding towns, who were interested in the healing benefits of Christian Science, decided to hold weekly informal meetings to read together the Christian Science Bible Lesson-Sermon.

In 1914, the informal gathering became a Society (the first step toward becoming a branch church). By 1928, the Christian Science Society had become First Church of Christ, Scientist, Princeton, a recognized branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The church services were held in a small building on Olden Street.

In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy was healed of a near fatal injury while reading a Biblical account of one of Christ Jesus’ healings. She realized through this healing that there must be some method behind his healing work. To find the answer, she turned to the Bible, including original texts which she learned to read as a young student. As her Bible studies progressed, she realized that she had discovered the Science of spiritual healing taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus in his ministry on earth.

Wanting to share this discovery with all mankind, she began to write what she was learning, and in 1875, she published the first edition of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This scientific healing method was proven through a vast accumulation of documented cases of physical, mental, emotional and situational healings by her and by thousands of others whom she taught, at first in small classes, later in her Christian Science Metaphysical College in Boston, Massachusetts (1881-1889). Since 1892, Christian Science healing has been taught through the church.

The Mercer Oak

The original oak tree was in the foreground, they planted a new tree from an acorn from the original tree.

The Delaware and Raritan Canal (D&R Canal) is a canal in central New Jersey, built in the 1830s, that connects the Delaware River to the Raritan River. It was an efficient and reliable means of transportation of freight between Philadelphia and New York City, transporting anthracite coal from eastern Pennsylvania during much of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

This portion of the canal is famous due to the Princeton Rowing teams. Still to this day any team that wants to qualify for the Olympics must first prove themselves here.

The course is two kilometers and begins way down there.

This is the Princeton row house, I would have expected it to be a much larger facility and more than just one dock. The facilities at University of Washington are much more extensive.

I talked to this guy and he was very friendly and told me all about Princeton Rowing and the course and the canal, and we talked about how recently The Univ. of Texas women recently won the championship which surprised me considering the limited history UT had in their rowing program.

The real reason we traveled to Princeton: Kids Camps

Both of our kids went to Vogelsinger Soccer Camp. I worked for Vogelsinger for five summers coaching at his camps and the experience of working with him made all the difference in my coaching. About a year ago Hubert Vogelsinger passed away. He had sold his camp to some associate of his who is trying to carry on the Vogelsinger traditions. Unfortunately there will never be another Hubert Vogelsinger but it seems they are doing their best to strive for excellence. My daughter Lia wanted her son to experience his first soccer camp and so off to Princeton we go.
