Summer 2022 June -August
Laguna Gloria Museum
In early June we took a day and spent it rediscovering Laguna Gloria, the now Contemporary Austin
"Walking through the gates of The Contemporary Austin – Laguna Gloria you feel like you’ve been transported far from the bustle of the city—although you are only five miles from downtown. Venture through the grounds to discover art by contemporary artists from around the world, from awe-inspiring monumental sculptures to quiet moments with art in nature along meditative wooded pathways."
The last time we were here (20 + years ago) the Museum in the background was the attraction,
Now it is the beautiful grounds and sculptures' lining the paths
The grounds are along the shores of Lake Austin.
A very busy art school as students were firing their works.
There is a open cafe and sitting areas throughout, you could easily spend an entire day here.
The Garden
The Star Sun Flower this year
However this plant was in strong competition, with several medium sized blossoms, never seen before here
By Mid June we were watering like crazy to keep the garden going. By Mid July everything had heat stroke. |
First year for corn which obviously was ok with the intense heat and sunshine. |
The tallest too!
Nor did the sunflowers care about the heat.
Kept Growing
and growing
and growing
All of the blossoms grew large enough to produce sizable seeds, our back yard squirrels picked them off one at a time and enjoyed the seeds.
This tree lost a sizable branch you can see the blank space upper left. This occurred throughout the neighborhood due to the drought conditions and triple digit temperatures most every day

Around Brookdale
Eventually all our grass will be replaced with native plants that can survive in the Southwest Desert!
I was a little disappointed to see how much a new web lawn chair cost thee days.
A roll that can re-web 4 chairs is just 1/3 the price.
About twenty minutes.
I can sit in the shade a Long time.
Just as the temps were forecasted in the triple digit for weeks,
the AC dies. 15 years old time for a new one. Thank Goodness they showed up 3 days later.
One guy installed the outside unit, and one the inside unit.
Way Better now.
It was bulky brush pick up day, I managed to find as much as I could for the "free city service"
This guy operated that like it was his own hand.
I had to pick up my son from the Airport and while waiting in the cell phone lot this Electric 18 wheeler tractor pulls in to get charged. All the space between the front wheels and the rear is for the batteries. $60,000 just for the batteries and can run for 260 miles till needing a charge, it just took them 20 minutes to charge up on this fast charger. Pretty cool no noise or dirty diesel smoke. You can see the 5th wheel is farther back than a tradition tractor.
All of Windsor Park is going through huge change, here is a typical flip where they keep part of the old structure to facilitate the permitting process.
Our squirrels have become pets, the Admiral set out this bird seed momentarily and he thought it was just for him.
Wild petunias
The only Pond Lily for hundreds of miles I am sure.
This is how it is going to be from now on.
Somehow the days and weeks were long and the months flew by. It had to be the record heat wave causing all that. Not sure I want to experience next years high temperatures.
